Welcome to Debra’s Learning Lab!

Originally, I am from Scotland… maybe you will pick up on this from my accent! Growing up, English and German were my favourite subjects in school. I have always had a passion for languages.

After finishing secondary school I studied Primary Education at Strathclyde University and graduated with an honours degree. I worked in Scotland as a teacher for one year before I caught the travel bug!

I moved to Madrid where I worked in a British school for three years. I loved working and living in Spain, making so many new friends and travelling around the country during the holidays.

Then I decided to move to Bonn, Germany to work in an International School. Here, I met children and their families from all over the world. I also worked on improving my German that I had learnt in school. After two years I got home sick but not for my home country of Scotland… but for Spain!

I moved back to Madrid and spent eight years working in various British schools and became Head of KS1 Department. This time around I really worked on becoming fluent in Spanish.

Now, life has brought me to Belgium where I am currently trying to learn French. I live here with my husband and dog Rudolfo. Working online allows me the flexibility to still travel and do what I love the most: teach!

My philosophy

“In teaching we plant the seeds of knowledge, but it is the child who makes them bloom.” - Maria Montessori

My philosophy in education will always be to create the right environment for children to explore, practice and discover their full learning potential.
